With the countless dog related crimes that have been occurring lately, we need some rescuers around like this Vietnamese man.

Do Minh Khoi was looking for his 3 missing dogs when he stumbled across a pack of pooches that had an assigned death date in a slaughterhouse in the Dien Khanh district.

Khoi discovered 31 strays locked in cages and decided to buy all of them from the slaughterhouse owner for VND24 million (RM4575).

He then posted them up on social media in hopes of someone recognising their missing furry family members, but only two families noticed the pups and returned them home safely.

Khoi was also offered financial reward from the families for his good deed, but he declined all advances.

He also received numerous requests to adopt the dogs, but he refused because he wanted more time for the owners to get them back.

“If I can’t find the previous owners, I will take the dogs to an animal shelter,” he said.

There was also concern over new owners selling the dogs back to the slaughterhouse to make a quick penny.

According to NST, stealing pet dogs isn’t too uncommon in the province because dog meat is a delicacy in Vietnam, which was why the dogs were found in a slaughterhouse.

The police have arrested six members of a criminal gang who allegedly stole over 100 dogs every night, to which they found the gang leader and discovered 63 dogs and 15 cats.

They also found a pick up truck, stun guns, and other tools used on their hunt. They sold the pups at VND50,000 (RM9.54) per kilogram and these dogs would eventually get sold to other dog traders.

Despite this heinous act, dog theft isn’t treated with the right severity in Vietnam, as the law only punishes theft of animal worth over VND2 million (RM381.66).

As for Khoi, he eventually found one out of three of his missing dogs, but seeing the owners reunite with their pets warms his heart.
