M’sian Man Makes Teh Tarik Kurang Manis Carbonara & Netizens Are Shocked!

When it comes to weird food inventions, we’ve heard it all.

From petai ice-cream to the ‘everything is a cake’ meme, the list apparently continues as a local man cooks up a unique spaghetti carbonara recipe called, Carbonara Teh Tarik Kurang Manis.

What’s special about this recipe is that it replaces cooking cream and milk with Boh Tea’s 3 in 1 Teh Tarik Kurang Manis Packets. So, I guess we’re replacing the taste of Italian cuisine with the taste of teh from Cameron Highlands… Interesting!

The man who made the recipe, Instagram user @ashhryyyyy, posted the one-minute tutorial video on his page where he demonstrates how he cooks the dish.

The ingredients of the recipe are more or less the same items used to cook a normal spaghetti carbonara, such as onions, capsicum, mushrooms, carbonara sauce, pepperoni, black pepper parsley and cheese. The only thing that’s out of the ordinary is the three 3 in 1 Teh Tarik Kurang Manis packets.

The process is pretty run-of-the-mill, as he chops up vegetables, boils the pasta and adds the prawns into the wok to fry. Things only get interesting when it comes to adding the sauce.

After the carbonara sauce is poured into the pan, the cook makes a cup of Teh Tarik Kurang Manis using 3 sachets before pouring all of that goodness into the dish. Instantly, the pasta becomes thicker and starts to change into a more brownish sauce.

Since this recipe is so – what’s the right word here?- special, it immediately caught the attention of netizens who have since shared the video on different social media platforms, especially on Twitter.

While some netizens seem to be curious on how the dish tastes, others were at a loss for words including famous 13-year-old self-taught chef, Danish Harraz, who replied to Khairul’s tweet with a shocked gif.

@ashhryyyyy who is a food enthusiast makes other interesting cooking videos too like kacang kuda pedas, salted egg chicken wings and kerang masak rendang.

Weird food combinations might be out of most people’s comfort zone, but life is short so we recommend trying it at least once. Live a little!
