Living in Subang Jaya

What is the most notorious district in Selangor?

If you thought of any place other than Subang Jaya then you must not have been in Selangor for that long…

KL Bubble Tea Street Is Boba Heaven With 10 Shops Open Till Late Including Gong Cha & The Alley

Home to huge rats that look like they had been biologically experimented on, the infamous boba street, horrible drivers who won’t hesitate to flash you the middle finger (there’s even one in JUICE) and rampant fucbois, Subang Jaya is known as the one place everyone should experience at least once.

And for people who actually live in Subang, the only thing we want to experience is getting out of it.

But is it really as bad and dystopian as everyone makes it out to be?

A lowkey Instagram account popped up with the handle @subang.gaya and it is, in my opinion as a Subang kid, an accurate depiction of the district.

Check out the posts below and tell me that this account isn’t a virtual capsule of this chaotic yet endearing place…

From random vegetables on the ground to adorable cattos and weirdly-poignant graffiti, Subang Jaya is a mixed bag and it isn’t enough to describe it in simple sentences.

You have to see it to believe it.

Since the owner is a fellow Subang kid and friend of mine (no, it’s not Joe Flizzow’s finsta), we had a short chat about our beloved home.

Here’s what he had to say about it.

People talk about the American dream, but what do you think is the Subang dream?

To pay exorbitant rent, go through terrible traffic, and not have to mention a state when telling people where you’re from. Also to hopefully have AsiaCafe resurrect once more.

You’ve spotted a lot of “motivational quotes” graffitied onto pillars in Subang. Give us some of your own Subang motivational quotes.

“Abaikan kecaman, teruskan berdosa!”

“Tupac is alive.”

“Stoned & Co. is the new Supreme.”

How would you describe the pain of having to endure Subang traffic jams?

It’s actually not so bad having to watch the sunset by the Persiaran Tujuan.

Who is more dangerous? Subang fucbois or Subang fucgirls? Why?

Fucgirls probably. At this point Subang fucbois are definitely easier to spot, right?

Which place were you the saddest to see close in Subang?

Sri Melur Jaya USJ 14, AsiaCafe, and Lorong SS15.

Another tragic loss would be Shakey’s in Summit… and maybe the downfall of Summit in general.

The Truth Is Out, There Is No Giant Rat At USJ11

Are the rats in SS15 as big as people say they are?

No, they’re actually bigger.

After a couple of hours at SS15, you might even crouch down to pet one thinking it’s a cat. That’s how bad it is.

Where do you usually lepak, chill and ambik feel in Subang?

Darussalam. It’s always Darus. Runner up to Taman Rekreasi Hutan Bandar.

How can you tell if a person has lived in Subang?

Trust me, they will tell you.

Coworking space review: Headspace

What’s the best way to get parking at SS15?

You just don’t. You park at the housing area and walk.

Subang people are typically not scared of anything but where in Subang do you actually feel fear?

SS15 roundabout during peak hour and the Summit top floor.

Perhaps Subang is as bad as people say it is, but in true patriotic fashion, we love it for all of its flaws and hidden quirks.

Whatever the situation might be, at least it’s not Bangsar…

What do you think?
