Malaysia’s Ultraman Ribut, Who Uses ‘Pencak Silat’, Joins The Team In New Ultraman Series
Just say the name Ultraman, and those who grew up in 80s and 90s will instantly recognise the heroic defender of The Land of Light in Nebula M78. Okay, maybe just the die-hard fans then…
There have been many iterations of the cosmic hero, but with just one appearance in the popular animated series Upin & Ipin, Ultraman Ribut became an instant hit for Malaysian kids.
Tsubaraya Production recently launched a new series on YouTube titled Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy that runs for 12 minutes per episode.
Now considered equal among heroes, Ultraman Ribut plays a major role in the series alongside other Ultramen including Ultraman Max and Zero in their quest to defeat the villain Absolute Tartarus.
Apart from Malaysia, Ribut also made waves in Japan, where local fans welcomed the hero with open arms when he appeared as a side character in last year’s Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes.

What makes Ribut interesting, apart from his Malaysian origins, is that this Ultraman’s fighting style seems to be based on Pencak Silat, a local martial arts style.
You could say that Malaysians on the internet immediately felt proud with his rise in the superhero world. Whether you’re a fan or not, we can all agree that a Malaysian silat-practitioner Ultraman is hella cool.
