Malaysian artist and 0108 SLATAN member maatjet has recently released his highly anticipated solo album, JIKA TAKDIR.

The 11-track album marks a significant milestone in the young artist’s career, representing the culmination of a three-year creative journey.

JIKA TAKDIR, which translates to “If Fate”, encapsulates maatjet’s journey in the music industry. It features familiar sounds that have become the signature of the artist, including his usual tender and personal lyrics.

“Throughout the entire three-year album-making process, I faced obstacles that caused me to doubt myself.

“But I came to the conclusion that I should just try my best and accomplish what I can. This album has taught me to value time and accept imperfections,” he said.

A standout track from the album is ‘PELUANG‘, a three-minute song that heartwarmingly showcases maatjet’s determination to pursue music full-time

Flowered by a sombre yet serene instrumental, the track is beautifully perfected with maatjet’s writing—the key component that makes his fans connect with his music.

In ‘PELUANG’, the artist poignantly asks for a chance to be heard, even if his music isn’t being played on the radio. This sincere plea resonates with anyone who has ever chased a dream against the odds.

The second verse adds a layer of gratitude, as the artist reflects on his journey and the early challenges he faced after deciding to ditch corporate life.

Despite the initial setbacks, he remained true to his values, looking out for his family while staying committed to his artistic goals.

“I realised that, if at all possible, I don’t want to go down the corporate path. Thus, the song is an expression of my sincere desire to pursue music,” said maatjet.

The track is further enhanced by Zhe Kamil and fellow 0108 SLATAN member Quai, each delivering bars that stick through their distinctive sounds and identities.

Other notable tracks include ‘WAYBACK’, ‘MACAM BIASA’, ‘COLD WALL’, and the album’s lead single, ‘AKU MOHON’

In ‘WAYBACK‘, the 25-year-old reminisces about his humble beginnings in the industry, throwing back to the time he was busy creating beats and hanging out with artist friends Izhar, Quai, Wuzgut, and others.

Both maatjet and Quai also discussed how their lives had changed after years of working together to establish their names in the industry.

The track highlights their development and transformation, emphasising their enduring bond and the collaborative effort required to achieve their current success.

In other words, it’s a reflection on their early careers, emphasising the camaraderie and shared experiences that shaped their paths.

“Every time I think back on the past, I’m still amazed at how our passion of just making music evolved into a career,” said maatjet.

The artist managed to harmoniously pull the album together with its mixes of fast as well as slower-tempo beats, paired nicely with his smooth vocals and non-complicated lyrics.

Despite the album revealing the signature sound and identity of maatjet, JUICE believes that the artist will continue to develop and grow sonically over time.

Previously, maatjet took on the role of main composer for 0108 SLATAN’s hit album, Kalau Begitu, Baiklah…, proving that he is capable of delivering more masterpieces in the future.

So, if you’re a fan of Malaysian hip-hop and R&B, maatjet is definitely an artist to keep an eye on, as he’ll undoubtedly continue to make waves in the industry, whether solo or with his label.
