Remember ‘Crazy Taxi’? It’s Coming Back & Going Global

SEGA has officially announced the return of the beloved Crazy Taxi franchise, a game in which you play a taxi driver doing your rounds while racking up the highest fares possible.

Dubbed Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the reboot will probably feel very familiar for people who played the original games, with green-haired driver Axel making a return for the upcoming title.

The first Crazy Taxi since the early 2000s

Some of you reading this might not have even been born yet when the first game came out in 1999, and got subsequently ported to more modern consoles in the early 2000s.

If you’re not familiar with how the game works, its premise is simple: Get your passenger to their destination and try to rack up as high a fare as possible, by any means necessary. Traffic laws are mere suggestions in this case.

That same mechanic will, of course, be an integral part of World Tour, but SEGA has introduced a new motivation for Axel. His precious set of wheels has been stolen by a group of masked villains. So in addition to going about his taxi driver duties, he also has to track down his car (and the people who stole it).

If the soundtrack of the original Crazy Taxi games still has a place in your heart, you’ll be glad to know there’s more of The Offspring in Crazy Taxi: World Tour. As for how many of their tracks will be featured in the game remains to be seen.

Judging from the announcement trailer, the latest addition to the Crazy Taxi franchise is set to be a welcome throwback to when games just didn’t care about how ridiculous their premise sounded. It’s refreshing to see, and something that a lot of people (both new and old gamers) can enjoy.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour is scheduled to release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, as well as Nintendo Switch 2.
