Terrifying Thai Indie Game Shines Spotlight on SEA Ghosts

You can probably count on just one hand the number of survival horror games that focus exclusively on Southeast Asian ghosts. There are a few notable titles, but they’re few and far between, especially if you’re talking about modern releases in the 2020s.

Thai indie game developer Teapot Studio has something in the works though, and it’s basically a chilling love letter to the terrifying creatures of Southeast Asian folklore, shining a spotlight on Thai ghosts.

It’s called The Twilight Project. Please refrain from any Edward and Bella references.

A remote Thai village where your deepest, darkest nightmares come to life

Set in the dense forests of Thailand, The Twilight Project is a third-person horror survival game that has you play as a tourist who accidentally wanders into a mysterious, forgotten village that’s completely sealed off from the outside world.

Trapped and unable to find your way out, you’re forced to fend for yourself and survive the night. But you soon discover you’re not alone, and there’s much more to this decrepit village than you thought. You’ll have to search for clues and uncover the dark history of the place.

But you’ll also have to contend with the terrifying creatures that come out at night. That’s where the game’s other mechanics play a big role.

Much like other survival horror titles, you can establish safe zones, but you can also set up traps or craft tools to defend yourself against the nightly attacks. Resources are limited, though, which makes every minute decision extremely important if you want to survive.

It’ll be interesting to see which specific ghosts make an appearance in the game, but if you’re already familiar with Thai folklore, you might recognise some haunting faces.

No release date has been announced yet, but we can surely expect great things, especially if the teaser trailer is of any indication of the gaming experience:
