M’sian Comedian Who Slammed Caucasian Fried Rice, Uncle Roger Assaulted In Alleged Race Crime

Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, or better known as Uncle Roger, shot to stardom when his video criticising the mat salleh method of cooking fried rice went viral on social media.

When Asians first saw his video, we all collectively gasped and laughed at the seemingly abysmal way Westerners were adapting the quintessential fried rice method. This led to more shares for Uncle Roger since we could all relate to his frustrations.

After ripping the original cook to shreds, he then targeted more renowned chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. With each new upload, he continues to rack a substantial amount of fans with his dry humour.

While he continues to bring us laughter online through his internet persona, Uncle Roger, it’s not all fun and games in real life for Nigel Ng.

Recently, the comedian was allegedly attacked in a race-driven assault in London.

[OPEN IN IGTV FOR CAPTIONS] Nigel Ng (@mrnigelng), known for his Uncle Roger persona, claims he was assaulted while walking back to his home on Friday. : The London-based Malaysian comedian posted about the incident to his Instagram stories where he says a “random guy” punched him in the face. In the clips, Ng points to his bleeding lip and a small bruise under it. “I’m guessing probably Covid racism-related? Which is really, really sh*tty. Good thing he wasn’t a great fighter because it could’ve been a lot worse, I could be in the hospital,” he says. Ng explains how the man parked his bike on the street, before coming angrily at him with his fist. When the comedian asked the attacker who he was, he replied, “You know what you did,” which baffled him further. : Ng states he filed a police report and worries about his safety walking back to his home, since to him, the “signs pointed to this being a random Covid racism attack.” “I didn’t know the guy, and I don’t think he knew who I was either. I think he was just trying to punch an Asian face,” he continues. On the bright side, Ng is pleased to find that the officer who took his statement is a fan and knows about Uncle Roger and his infamous egg-fried rice reaction videos. He goes on to warn his followers to stay safe and how incidents like these “shouldn’t happen in this day and age.” Ng then cracks more jokes about how he had just come from a dentist appointment and was more worried about his tooth getting chipped. The comic also complains about how the officers didn’t take their shoes off when they arrived and he would have to vacuum after them later. In a series of Instagram posts, Nigel detailed the incident where he was walking home and was suddenly beaten-up by a random stranger. He said in the videos,

“This random guy just came up and punched me in my face. I’m guessing its probably Covid-racism related, which is really really sh*tty. Good thing he wasn’t a great fighter.”

He then showed the bruises and cuts on his lips as evidence that this incident did actually occur. When Nigel asked the perpetrator what he did to deserve the beating, the man simply said, “You know what you did.”

He then continued by saying,

“I don’t think he knew who I was either. I think he was just trying to punch an Asian face. It just really sucks that it happened because now I don’t know if I can feel safe walking back to my own place.”

In true Uncle Roger humour, Nigel still managed to make light of the situation by cracking a few jokes and sharing the ironic story of how the policewoman, who he lodged a report to, actually recognised him from his videos.

Despite the jokes, the unjust assault is still a pertinent matter. Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, race-driven assaults towards the Chinese have increased substantially. Prejudice still remains to this day notwithstanding the amount of times where nation leaders have insisted against violence.

Fear and anger are not justifiable reasons to act violently against someone you don’t know simply because of their ethnicity. We’re supposed to be fighting Covid-19, not one another.
