With the CMCO back in place and extended, charitable organisations have gotten the brunt of it as many of them are depending on donations by the public. Although this might be a tough time for everyone, we at JUICE feel the need to highlight individuals in vulnerable communities.

Recently, Shan Ai’s Home for Old Folks & Disabled Children in Cheras have appealed for a monthly donation between RM 50-300 from the public, as the centre is facing issues such as insufficient supplies and funds to maintain daily expenses for the people who live there.

The centre does not have any fixed sponsorship from outsiders or companies and is currently in preparation for accepting donations to cover their expenses in October which cost almost RM14,000.

This is because the expenses include food for 18 pax, the water and electricity bills, medical expenses, transportation fees, employees salaries and other miscellaneous costings.

Due to the CMCO’s restricted movement between districts, most charitable organisations including Shan Ai are forced to cancel visitations from family members to the centre.

“We saw the disappointment in our lovely folks’ faces but even they understand it is now a critical moment in reining the spread of the virus,” said Bella, a staff at Shan Ai.
