6 College Students Who Thought They Only Needed 1 Person Per Table to Check-In via MySejahtera, Got Fined RM1K Each
Although it should be common knowledge that every individual is required to scan a code with the MySejahtera app or physically sign-in on paper before entering any premises even if it’s for a short time, a group of six college students in Melaka might have misunderstood the rule.
This led them to being fined RM1,000 each when police patrolling the area checked everyone’s phones, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
The incident happened when a group of eight college students were divided into two tables with four people occupying a table. Believing that they only needed one representative from each table to scan, 6 of the students did not sign in.
Aside from the students, the restaurant’s manager who had just returned from a business trip was also fined as he did not scan his MySejahtera app either. A compound fine was issued for not enforcing SOPs or training his staff to take the temperature of customers and check-in.
According to Melaka Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department Chief Asst Comm, Beh En Lai in The World Of Buzz, for violation of SOPs from the start of the month to 20 October – 747 fines were issued. He said, “50% of them didn’t wear masks. 30% of them didn’t practise physical distancing and the other 20% consists of individuals who didn’t scan MySejahtera or staff who didn’t enforce SOPs such as taking the temperature.”
Signing in with paper and pen or via the MySejahtera app should part of the new normal. Let’s try our best to follow the SOPs since the situation is getting more serious by the day.
