Aunt Gladys From ‘Weapons’ Is Getting Her Own Creepy Prequel

Following the massive success of Weapons, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are now working on a prequel, centred around the unsettling antagonist, Aunt Gladys, played by Academy Award-winning actress, Amy Madigan.

It’ll fittingly be called Gladys, and revolves around her mysterious origins, including her arrival in town.

Script is actively being worked on

Weapons writer and director Zach Cregger says the script for Gladys is already in development, alongside co-writer Zach Shields.

Shields might be a familiar name if you’re a fan of Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Krampus. It’ll be interesting to see how his writing style pans out in what will certainly be an unsettling horror flick.

“We’ve been beating the story out,” shared Cregger with Entertainment Weekly. “And we’ll see. It’s really early days. I can’t say too much about it, but I think it’s gonna be great.”

If you haven’t already seen Weapons, the film centres on 17 school children who mysteriously go missing overnight, having all woken up at exactly 2:17 a.m., leaving their houses and running into the night. They’re also from the same classroom, putting a big target on their teacher’s back.

The film also stars Julia Garner (who plays Ms. Justine Gandy, the teacher of the missing students), Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, and Cary Christopher (who plays Alex Lily, the only student who’s not missing).

Details about Gladys are scarce, so we can’t say with absolute certainty that the main cast from Weapons will also appear in the prequel. But we can, of course, expect another stellar performance from Amy Madigan.
