Sony Collabs with Honda To Sell Cars with Built-In Playstation 5 & Pre-Orders Will Start in 2025
Calling all gamers and car fanatics!
The collab we never knew we wanted might just happen in the very near future. Multiple sources (IGN, The Verge) have reported that tech giant Sony is planning to install PS5s into Honda cars.
COO and president of Sony Honda Mobility, Izumi Kawanishi, expressed his desire to install Playtsation 5s (PS5) into Honda cars in an interview he did with the Financial Times.
The idea behind this stems from a grand vision to create an “entertainment-driven vehicle” as a means of competing with other electric vehicle models currently in the market such as the Tesla.
Kawanishi stated that he believed it’s “technologically possible” for Sony to integrate PS5 consoles into their planned car, set to be built in conjunction with Honda.
“To enjoy the space in your car, you have to make it a space where you don’t need to drive,” added Kawanishi.
Gadgets Now reported that Chairman of Sony Honda Mobility, Yasuhide Mizuno, stated that Playstation wants to “develop a car as hardware that will cater to the entertainment and network we would like to offer.”
Despite their enthusiasm, Kawanishi still pointed out how the project would take some years to fully complete.
For those of you who weren’t aware (me before writing this), both Sony and Honda merged together back in June to form a new business that would focus on selling high-value electric vehicles while offering mobility services.
According to plans unveiled in October of this year, the first set of electric vehicles from Sony Group and Honda Motor are expected to be on the market by 2026 while pre-orders for the gaming-mobiles will start in 2025.
Would you get one for yourself?
