Renew Your Driver’s License on the MyJPJ App From Feb 1 & Get a RM5 Rebate
Did you know you can renew your driver’s license from the comfort of your mobile phone?
Even better, renewing your license on the MyJPJ app will also get you a RM5 rebate, starting from 1 February until 31 December 2024.
Then you can use the app to store your digital driver’s license and road tax. This is super convenient if you hate carrying around physical cards everywhere. Additionally, if you’ve always hated replacing your road tax sticker, you won’t need to worry about ruining it anymore.
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, renewals for driver’s licenses and road tax will be conducted in phases, and is currently open to Malaysian citizens.
“To encourage the use of e-LMM (e-driver’s license), those who choose e-LMM to end their licences will enjoy a rebate of RM5,” Loke said.
The digital driver’s license and road tax via MyJPJ was initially rolled out in 2023
But as of 31 December 2023, only 7.5 million people have used it, according to a JPJ survey.
This JUICE writer has been using a digital driver’s license and road tax since August 2023. So far, it’s been super convenient knowing that my license is always with me as long as I have my phone (and the MyJPJ app installed).
The process is pretty seamless
You’ll need to download the MyJPJ app and register an account (very straightforward). Once you’ve got an account, you can simply find the ‘Renew’ button and follow the instructions from there. You’ll be able to choose the duration of your license renewal: Three years, five years, or 10 years.
In addition to this, the app recently introduced a new feature called ‘Kongsi LKM’, which lets people share a digital version of their road tax – especially useful if a car is being used by more than one person. To share your digital road tax with another MyJPJ user, just follow the instructions we’ve provided below:

While it can be convenient to not have to carry around a piece of plastic everywhere you go, we do feel the need to remind you that the digital driver’s license is only valid in Malaysia.
If you plan to do some driving abroad, you’ll still need a physical driver’s license, as other countries may have different laws. If that’s the case, you can apply for one at any JPJ branch.
