Four years in, Porcelane have reached the kind of turning point that can make or break a band: figuring out what comes next without losing what made them worth listening to in the first place.

The Kuala Lumpur emo outfit are approaching that question with two new members, a shift in musical direction, and a hometown show lined up for 7 November.

Titled ‘Everything Comes Full Circle’, the gig takes place at Livefact, Kota Damansara, where Porcelane will introduce their latest lineup alongside The Baby Cosmos, Dimes, and Same Outfit. For a band that has spent the past few years finding its footing in the local underground, the show serves as a chance to present a different side of themselves.

Since forming in 2022, Porcelane have released their debut EP, Not Dead Just Asleep, toured Southeast Asia, and worked with Converse through its All Star programme. Their latest chapter sees Johanna and Rykal join founding members Alessandro and Daud, taking on rhythm and lead guitar respectively.

The changes follow the departure of a former member and a growing need to reconsider the band’s sound. Rather than continue down a familiar path, Porcelane have used the transition to work towards a direction that better reflects the four musicians now making up the group.

Dro says bringing Johanna and Rykal into the fold was a relatively straightforward decision.

Their creative compatibility and enthusiasm helped the new lineup feel like a natural fit after four years together.

For Johanna, joining Porcelane offers room to grow alongside more experienced musicians while exploring the Basement-inspired sound she has wanted to pursue since her first band.

Rykal sees lead guitar as a chance to explore his songwriting from a new angle while staying rooted in Porcelane’s emo-adjacent sound. He also values the friendships he has built with more established musicians in the scene.

The transition has not meant a complete departure from the people who helped shape Porcelane, either. Former member Ajith Nair remains involved as a producer and behind-the-scenes contributor. Having watched the new members find their place in the group, he is optimistic about what their youth and enthusiasm could bring to its next phase.

With the new lineup in place, ‘Everything Comes Full Circle’ marks Porcelane’s first chance to bring this next chapter to the stage.
