Local Actress Bodyshamed By Netizens And Brought To Tears While Filming ‘Live’ Makeup Tutorial

Possessing a large following has its perks, indeed. Nevertheless, being in the spotlight also opens up multiple opportunities for snide comments and cyberbullying to occur seamlessly.

Local actress Fatin Afeefa, known for her roles in Tentang Bulan (2006), Kampung Drift (2016) was faced with one such instance recently while she had gone live on TikTok to film a makeup tutorial.

One viewer allegedly commented on the appearance of her neck, stating that it was wrinkly and unsightly.

Netizens were quick to notice that something was amiss when Fatin momentarily moved out of the camera frame and came back with tears welling in her eyes. This prompted them to send Fatin encouraging comments, asking her to dismiss the hateful remarks and continue filming.

However, the actress seemingly found it hard to fight back the tears and finished the video with swollen eyes and a crack in her voice.

Following that, she said that she would seek treatment to be rid of the lines and wrinkles and her neck but she believed that doing so would spark even further outrage from netizens, who will state that she has altered her appearance beyond God’s vision.

“I’m not harming anyone. These comments are so uncalled for,” she added.

The excerpt from the live video that was shared by a TikTok user has since received mass attention with viewers and fans expressing their sympathy towards Fatin for the fact that she had to undergo such situations.

Some also noted that lines on the neck are common and definitely do not justify cyberbullying, whether directed at a popular public figure or otherwise; while many asserted that they had been faced with similar situations whereby they were left with looming insecurities after being casually bodyshamed.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) received 6,598 public complaints related to online harassment from 2020 to July 2021.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act criminalises any speech made with the intention to “annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person”. This section was made to specifically counter cyberbullying.
