Just yesterday, everyone on social media was going crazy as One Utama shopping centre had reported 63 positive COVID-19 clusters.

However, with updated reports today, that may not have been the case.

Now, the mall’s management denies the accuracy of the total number of cases – 63 positive cases – which originated from One Utama after conducting the unprecedented massive swab test that involved 6,000 mall staffs and tenants.

“From the 6,000, we have yesterday (Oct 14) concluded test results and successfully identified 20 tenant staff and 1 mall management staff as Covid positive. These 21 persons have been swiftly quarantined by KKM to contain the spread and further minimise potential exposure,” said One Utama in a statement.

They also stated that the 44 positive cases of security guards mentioned in JBPD Petaling’s report did not originate from One Utama and was not part of the mass testing of 6,000 that was conducted.

They are in fact outsourced contract guards from a third-party service provider where the virus was contracted through a dormitory and not within the mall’s premises.

The mall is still working very hard to ensure the safety of the mall and tenant staff, but it’s a big relief as the total number of cases is much lower. We hope that the mall gets back on their feet soon!

Follow the SOPs and stay safe, peeps!
