In an announcement by Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham today, he stated that Malaysia has recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases ever since the pandemic started in January.

The sharp increase which sees 287 new cases adds up to a total of 1,540 active cases, with 81 cases recovered. The previous highest number of new cases was on 4th June that recorded 277 new infections. As for now, the death toll from the coronavirus in the country remains at 136, he added.

The Health DG also mentioned that there are two new clusters, Seri Anggerik and Seri Setia which are both located in Selangor. He then reminded that Malaysia is still under RMCO and that everyone should avoid any social gatherings. Even if it’s an emergency, the gathering must be in line with the current SOPs.

Recently, Dr Noor Hisham said the increase in cases could be seen as the beginning of a new wave, according to CNA.

“We have seen increasing cases lately, and that is probably the beginning of a new wave. It depends on us, on whether we can flatten the curve again,” he said at a media briefing yesterday.
