Malaysia’s Young Techies Shine at Global IT Challenge 2025

Just in case you’re in need of another dose of Malaysian pride, a team of Malaysian tech whizzes comprising youth with disabilities have done the nation proud in Ulsan, South Korea.

The team competed at the Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) 2025, delivering an outstanding performance that not only earned them top international awards, but also showed off Malaysia’s growing reputation as a champion of inclusion and digital innovation.

More than 1,700 youth with disabilities from 20 countries

Held from 29 to 31 October 2025, GITC saw youth from all over the world showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills through a series of digital challenges.

From coding and content creation to teamwork-based problem-solving, the event highlighted how technology can empower people of all abilities in the digital age.

Team Malaysia’s very own Muhammad Thaqiif bin Muhamad Zharif wowed judges with his sense of innovation, taking home the Best e-Combination Award. He also shared the Best e-Content Award with fellow teammates Lum Man Jun, Muhammad Syakir bin Zailani, and Muhammad Fahim bin Mohd Sofian.

This makes it a double-win in one of the competition’s most prestigious categories. Watch their e-Content showcase below:

Malaysia also managed to bag the Special Contribution Award, which recognises a country’s commitment to advancing inclusion and creating opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

“This success belongs to the entire education ecosystem. To every teacher who believed, every parent who encouraged, and every student who dared to dream, this is your shared victory,” says Dr Mohd Anuar bin Abdullah, Deputy Director (Instructional Development) at the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

“The Ministry will continue strengthening inclusive digital learning pathways to ensure no child is left behind in the nation’s digital future.”

Co-hosted by Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare and LG Electronics, GITC is one of the world’s most respected platforms for digital inclusion.

This year, Team Malaysia showed that with a little bit of passion and perseverance, today’s youth can make technology a tool for empowerment and equality.
