Let’s be honest, 2017’s Justice League was not the movie we were looking for, so this time around we’re getting a proper release — a four-hour movie riding on Zack Snyder’s original vision for the film.

Jared Leto’s Joker was not part of Snyder’s original plan, but HBO Max made an offer for him to finalise his own cut of the movie, and alas, Batman’s nemesis was brought into the project.

Other than having the same handsome-twisted face, this Joker looks completely different from 2016’s edgy Suicide Squad version. No more bad prison tattoos or that super slick dyed hair.

Instead, this Joker has Leto’s usual hair length, looks like he just murdered everyone and stole that hospital gown he’s wearing – reminiscent of horror movie villains with aesthetics of the Crow.

According to Vanity Fair, in one of the scenes, the Joker sports a bulletproof vest full of law enforcement badges. Snyder said, “Those are his trophies.”

While it’s sort of obvious where or when we would see the Joker in this film, it’s confirmed that he will appear in one of the Knightmare scenes after Darkseid invades and decimates the Earth.

There’s no way of saying how this version of Joker could redeem the 2016’s version, but we know Jared Leto got the chops to make it work. As Kylo Ren once said, “Let the past die. Kill it if you have to”, so we’ll see when the film comes out.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be released on HBO Max on 18 March 2021.
