After being pushed to a later release date due to the pandemic, Warner Bros. has finally dropped the trailer for Godzilla vs Kong, where the two legendary monsters will fight for the title of king (we’re guessing Kong’s kingship is not recognised in Japan).

The trailer shows us a glimpse of the epic showdown on a ship where Godzilla bursts out of the ocean and gives Kong a taste of his powerful atomic breath.  Kong doesn’t give up though, later in the trailer he comes back with a magical axe (yes, a magical axe!).

There are a few vague plot details about Godzilla not being himself and that the battle has been prophesied, and a whole lot of roaring, punches, and exploding stuff… so if you’re looking for something deep beyond action-CGI eye-candy, then check out this movie listicle instead. But if you’re here for the monster mayhem then watch the trailer below:

Adam Wingard, known for his films Death Note and Blair Witch, directed the movie. It stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Brian Tyree Henry, Rebecca Hall and Julian Dennison.

Scheduled for release on 21 May 2021, Godzilla vs Kong is the fourth instalment of the franchise after Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019).

After Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla vs Kong is the next film in Warner Bros.’ slate of projects that will be released on the streaming service HBO Max ’cause you know, Covid-19.
