Farm Fresh’s Raya Short Film Is a Story About Starting Again

With Raya just around the corner, it’s no surprise that we’ve been hit with a wave of heartfelt short films from some of the biggest brands in Malaysia.

Farm Fresh’s latest release, Bersama Semoola, is a 12-minute short film that leans heavily into nostalgia, friendship, and the quiet bravery it takes to start again.

The title of the film itself is a playful twist on the Malay word, semula, meaning “again”. It sets the tone for the film, revolving around second chances, not just in life, but also relationships and creative passions.

A band makes their comeback with a Raya song

Directed by Faizal Noar, Bersama Semoola follows four former bandmates who decide it’s time to reunite and attempt a comeback with a brand new Raya song.

Played by Khir Rahman, Dboy Hamdan, Monrasli Aswad, and Farm Fresh Group COO, Azmi Zainal, the band’s journey is filled with playful banter, lingering tensions, and the charming warmth of old friendships that never quite fade away.

On the surface, the film is a lighthearted musical about a group of aging rockers chasing one more moment in the spotlight. But at the heart of it all sits a more emotional core. The story sees the characters slowly reconnect, but unresolved feelings begin to surface.

Making the film even more unique is its influence, which it wears quite proudly. There’s a clear nod to Rock Oo!, the cult Malaysian rock comedy by the late Mamat Khalid. You’ll find the same scrappy band energy, mixed with some cheeky humour and heartfelt moments.

The song, ‘Gembira Raya‘, is performed by Margasatwa, and marks the band’s first-ever Raya song, which you can stream on Spotify. It also makes this Farm Fresh campaign the first Raya TVC to debut with a fully streamable original soundtrack.

Take one listen and you’ll automatically feel the nostalgic vibes, plus the delightfully simple “ding ding ding” hook that you’ll probably have a hard time not silently humming after.

“This year, Farm Fresh presents another piece that stands apart. Our short film, Bersama Semoola, tells a simple story about friendship, family, and how music has its own way of reigniting old memories, through our OST which has been playing on the radio and Spotify,” says Azmi Zainal, Farm Fresh Group COO.
