After seven years of carving out a name in the scene, Against Mel finally unveils his debut studio album: SCENTS / SENSES.
Dropped earlier this month across all major streaming platforms, this release marks a bold new chapter in the artist’s journey, one that fuses sound, mood, and metaphor into an immersive body of work.
At its core, SCENTS / SENSES is an exploration of modesty, both as a theme and as an aesthetic. Each track captures a distinct emotional “scent”, inviting listeners into a layered listening experience that is as introspective as it is expressive.
From subtle grooves to atmospheric breaks, the album plays like a diary of moods

Featuring a stellar lineup of local hip-hop acts, including Nakalness, Sabbala, Citybois, and Ichu, the album weaves their voices into Mel’s musical style, amplifying its emotional range while staying true to the artist’s vision.
One of the highlight tracks from the album is ‘CERMIN‘, a stripped-back, emotionally resonant tune that leans into vulnerability.
Guided by intimate, introspective lyrics and anchored by a delicate interplay of melodic piano and sweeping string sections, the track captures Against Mel at his rawest. According to the artist, it’s also one of his most personal songs to date.
“‘CERMIN’ is a deeply personal track for me. I went all in, fully vulnerable, just to let people hear how I truly feel through this song. It’s about the battle you have with yourself, but you’ll never really win because at the end of the day, it’s just you versus you, just like when you’re standing in front of a mirror,” said the artist.

Against Mel emphasises that SCENTS / SENSES isn’t tailored to a single demographic. Instead, it’s a genre-spanning body of work designed to resonate with a wide range of listeners.
“I specifically curated this album for everyone. If you’re an old head, you might vibe with ‘HENTAK’, which draws heavy inspiration from Eminem’s sound. If you’re more into the new-gen internet vibes, ‘FRENCHIE or TOFFEE‘ might be your thing.
“I’ve always believed that being inclusive makes it easier for people to connect with my work, rather than boxing myself into one demographic,” he said.
The result is an album that feels both personal and expansive, one that invites listeners from all walks of life to find their own reflection within its sonic landscape.
SCENTS / SENSES isn’t just a debut; it’s an aromatic journey that reflects growth, restraint, and a deeper dive into Against Mel’s evolving artistry.
