Senior Cop In Ipoh Murder Case Allegedly Gets ‘Special Treatment’ At Court

Journalists were left bewildered after Mohd Nazri was seen allegedly getting “special treatment” at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court. The senior cop was charged with the murder of 17-year-old Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie earlier today.

Members of the media had been camped out in the court compound since 7.30 a.m., ready to take photos and videos of the accused upon his arrival. When Mohd Nazri arrived at 9 a.m., he was produced in court via a different (and heavily guarded) route.

This meant that journalists weren’t able to snap his photo, breaking the norm seen with other murder cases.

More police officers than usual

According to New Straits Times, police officers were seen actively occupying spaces normally used by the media. These paths are usually used by photographers to snap photos of the accused before they’re led into court.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t do that this time.

Any opportunity to photograph Mohd Nazri also resulted in disappointment, since his face was covered with a piece of clothing. Additionally, just one photographer and cameraman were allowed to take photos and record videos of the accused before proceedings.

The victim was on his way home from school

On 15 December, an altercation had ensued between Mohd Nazri and the student after the latter had revved his motorcycle.

This resulted with a nearly-1km chase, ending when the police officer rammed his car into the back of the student’s motorcycle. The victim fell from the impact and was dragged a further five metres. He died at the scene.

According to a post-mortem examination conducted at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, the cause of death was chest and abdomen injuries.
