WATCH: Crowd Surge at Travis Scott’s Concert Crushes Fans Leaving 8 Dead & Many Injured

A crowd surge of 50,000 concert goers killed 8 people at Travis Scott’s Astroworld music festival last Friday. The youngest victim was said to be 14-years-old while as many as 300 others were injured, including a 10-year-old who is currently in critical condition. The festival was held in the rapper’s hometown at Houston, Texas. 

The video below shows festival goers chanting “stop the show” during the rapper’s performance in response to people being crushed against each other. 

 The crowd surge started during the countdown to Travis Scott’s performance and escalated to a stampede that left many people suffocated by the crowd.

“Over the next several days, several weeks, could be even longer, we’ll take an in-depth look at everything that took place, why it took place, what steps we can do moving forward to mitigate an incident of this kind from taking place,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on a news conference addressing the mass casualty.

One of the festival attendees, Niara Goods said that “as soon as he jumped out on the stage, it was like an energy took over and everything went haywire.”

“All of a sudden, your ribs are being crushed. You have someone’s arm in your neck. You’re trying to breathe but you can’t … It was literally the scariest night of my life. I literally thought I was going to die.” she said. 

Travis Scott took to his Instagram to address the tragedy. 

 

“I just wanna send out prayers to the lives that were lost last night. We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time,” said Scott in his video. 

Now Travis and the organisers of Astroworld are facing lawsuits by festival goers for being allegedly motivated by profit at the expense of concert goers’ health and safety as well as encouraging violence. 

A concertgoer who told reporters she had been to two previous Astroworld events, said it’s not unusual for a crowd to “rage” when Scott appears.

“Everyone pushes everyone,” she said.
