What Happens When Old Master Q and Yanxi Palace Meet?

Ever wondered what would happen if you combined two famous brands of Chinese pop-culture into one? Well, definitely something legendary… and it’s coming your way! It seems like our favourite childhood comic character (that we tend to read about every time we’re at the hairdresser)–Old Master Q (OMQ) is visiting d’Tempat Country Club which will be made up to look like the beautiful Yanxi Palace this Chinese New Year.

OMQ is weirdly hipsterish and cool (he rocks a vintage traditional top with skinny plaid pants), but it’s his witty humour and somewhat relatable character that sticks. What makes the comic special is that, even if you can’t read Chinese, you can definitely understand what’s happening. Case in point below:

Now take Old Master Q and combine him with the beautiful Yanxi Palace from the hit drama series, The Story of Yanxi Palace. Fun fact about the show: the series broke all viewing records when it was released on video streaming site iQiyi. The 70-episode series has racked up more than 5 billion views on Chinese streaming services and is especially popular with women.

It became an overnight sensation due to its elaborate costumes and lavish set design, as well as its strong-willed and cunning female protagonist, a rarity in typical Chinese court dramas.

Although Old Master Q and The Story of Yanxi Palace come from polar ends of Chinese pop culture, amusingly, combining them works! Imagine OMQ and his antics running around getting lost in the glamorous Yanxi Palace..

Now that’s entertainment.. and you get a chance to see that in real life this Chinese New Year as d’Tempat Country Club in Bandar Sri Sendayan will be transformed into the Yanxi Palace for this escapade to happen! Bring your family and friends, cause everyone is invited to have a great time.

Here are some details about the event:

Happening on 16 and 17 February, d’Tempat Country Club has prepared tonnes of performances and activities just for you starting at around 3pm. Expect sand art, hand fan painting, an acrobatic show, the God of Prosperity and of course, lion dances (by 8 lions!) and more.

To make sure you don’t miss the good parts, here are the highlights for the day on the 16th of Feb:

1. Old Master Q Performance –  8:30pm

2. Mask Changing Show – 9:00pm

3. Launch & Lion Dance – 3:30pm

4. Acrobatic Lion Dance – 4:30pm

5. Chinese Umbrella Dance Performance – 5:30pm

6. Chinese Acrobatic Show – 6:30pm

7. Multiracial Dance – 7:30pm
