WATCH: Hilarious Video-Edits of Rosmah Mansor’s “Can I Advise You Something!”
This week, Malaysians got the “privilege” to listen to audio recordings made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Besides knowing that MACC can possibly tap your phone calls, sort of confirming our paranoia of “the government is listening to us” – in the recordings, you can clearly hear Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and our ex-PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak having a conversation which shows who’s the real bossku.
Rosmah was heard directing her husband on how to take charge and manage the 1MDB scandal that erupted in 2016 when the US Justice Department announced its anti-kleptocracy investigation into the case. According to Malay Mail, MACC chief Latheefa Koya played the 45-minute recording that included conversations between 5 January 2016 and 29 July 2016.
But what really caught the ears (and imagination) of Malaysians was when a frustrated Rosmah was heard raising her voice, shouting at our former PM, “Darling, can I advise you, can I advise you something?!” Before anyone could say “take a chill pill Rosie”, the catchphrase ‘Can I advise you something?’ became a thing on social media. Here’s the portion of that original recording by the MACC:
Rosmah: Datuk mana?
Officer: Kejap ya Datin.
Najib: Hi, ya?
Rosmah: Hi, apa cerita?
Najib: Kejap…
Rosmah: Can I advise you… Can I ADVISE YOU SOMETHING?!
Najib: Ya ya hang on. Ok, anything? pic.twitter.com/9I7Wjygfvd

…and along with that fresh catchphrase, came the memes and funny tweets… cause… how else are we Malaysians supposed to deal with political scandals? Here are some of our favourites:

What really takes the cake though, is when local comedian Haikal Idris decided to dub Rosmah and Najib’s conversation over Netflix American drama Marriage Story:
Fuck it, here’s Marriage Story but with ‘can I advise you something’ pic.twitter.com/XtsUYouKlA

Another impressive take is that of local indie artiste Takahara Suiko (of The Venopian Solitude, who created a Raya song last year using KFC chicken & nuggets as instruments) decided to remix the audio! Listen to it below:
