The laneways of downtown KL are set to come to life with intricate projected mapping artwork that gives the city’s overlooked urban spaces a literal glow-up after dark.
It’s all part of a cool artist-led experience called Warung TERANG, taking place from 8 to 17 May 2026 across multiple locations in KL.
Moving beyond fixed installations

The experience will feature six different artworks spanning Jalan Tun H.S Lee, Jalan Sang Guna, Muzium Telekom, and the River of Life.
Developed by Filamen, Warung TERANG is an ongoing exploration of how contemporary digital art can exist freely in the city, ditching fixed installations for a format that encourages more interaction between the public, the artwork, and the artists themselves.

But more than being an interactive art experience, its other aim is to draw people back into overlooked urban spaces, breathing new life into places that usually fade into obscurity when the sun goes down.
As the name might suggest, Warung TERANG follows a ‘pasar‘ theme, with the idea that Southeast Asia’s markets aren’t just places where you buy goods. They’re also places where ideas and good conversations are exchanged, which is pretty much in line with the initiative.

“In a pasar, it’s never just about what is being sold, it’s about the people, the conversations, and the shared stories that move through the space,” said Abdul Shakir, Co-Founder of Filamen.
“With Warung TERANG, we wanted to bring that into downtown KL, where audiences are not just watching, but becoming part of the experience, rediscovering familiar places, and forming meaningful new memories along the way.”
The artists and collectives in this inaugural edition of Warung TERANG include local talents like Fairuz Sulaiman of Sekolah Main Wayang, visual collective Fonetikar, and multimedia artist Tan Ji Kean. Representing Indonesia are The Fox, The Folks, Story of Karana, and Hue.
