Malaysia is currently undergoing its phases of vaccination against the Covid-19 virus and according to Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, while Malaysia has been doing well, we’re still far behind when it comes to developing our medicine field.

According to him, the country needs to move towards vaccine development instead of just remaining a testing ground and consumer of vaccines from different countries.

In a statement, he said, “Pandemics are a non-traditional threat, thus investment into research and development of vaccines is of strategic importance. It is true that we currently do not possess the expertise but science is about collaboration and the sharing of knowledge in a productive ecosystem.”

Mohamad also stated that the government needs to address the current speed of the nation’s vaccination process since there have been a lot of frustrations that have surfaced regarding the matter.

As of right now, the assemblyman is pushing for prioritisation on an advanced scientific ecosystem across disciplines and geography.
