One local TikTok user has come under fire for alleging that some mamak stalls engage in pretty unsanitary behaviour.

It isn’t uncommon to come across a story about a particular F&B establishment violating more than a few health codes. But this TikTok user’s claims are particularly bizarre, and now she’s facing some heat.

More specifically, the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) has lodged a police report against her.

In a video (now removed but still circulating online) posted by said TikTok user, she talks about four things to look out for in mamak stalls.

The first of which is biryani wrapped in underwear. According to the TikTok user, some mamak workers in KL allegedly wrap this beloved dish in underwear for reasons unknown.

Secondly, she claims that a toyol managed to urinate in some curry at another mamak stall. This is apparently ‘legit’ because “My friend told me.”

The TikTok user then claims that another establishment uses bathwater as a special ingredient.

She finishes off her video with one last claim – frozen poop in some dhal gravy.

Presma isn’t happy

Whether these claims hold any weight or not, we’ll never really know. Despite saying that “not all” mamak stalls do these things, it’s easy to see how damaging it can be for their reputation at large.

“We believe that the statement and allegations made by the influencer contain malicious intent without strong evidence and we strongly deny the allegations made by her through the video,” said Presma president Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan.

“We are also of the view that the user’s action in uploading the content can create a negative perspective towards other mamak restaurants in Malaysia, consequently damaging their businesses.”

The TikTok user has already removed the video in question. But of course, once you upload something on social media, someone else will always keep receipts.

Late last year, Presma expressed displeasure over the promotion of nasi kandar babi, but later toned down its views after the owner of said nasi kandar stall clarified it wasn’t being served in mamaks.

Anyway, what’s your favourite mamak restaurant?
