Thai Man Almost Drowns While Swimming Home From Malaysia
Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the Thai government is not allowing anyone to enter the country without proper vetting. At the border checkpoint, a Thai man desperately attempted to return home and it almost cost him his life.
The Thai fisherman had apparently been stranded at the Perlis Thai-Malaysian border since March 23. That’s almost a whole month of being isolated from loved ones which understandably would cause someone to go a little mad. Not knowing how long the lockdown would last, he decided to take matters into his own hands by illegally crossing the border.
With only a bottle of water and a lunchbox, he began his swim and was immediately struck with strong currents that almost drowned him. The Marine police found him washed out at sea, exhausted and very happy to receive help. He was then taken to the hospital and put under a 14-day quarantine.
The Thai man was ultimately fined 800 baht (RM106) and the Thai government has now closed 9 borders to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
As a reminder to everyone, stay home and stay safe. Social distancing and obeying the MCO is the least we could do to curb the virus. Let’s not jump into any oceans for the time being.
