A red Proton Saga has quietly become Sabah’s most expensive long-term parker, racking up nearly RM20,000 in unpaid parking fines.

Seen around Segama in Kota Kinabalu, the car’s rap sheet is reportedly so long and extensive that it requires a few minutes of scrolling to get to the very end, which is pretty telling of the situation people in the area currently face with regard to this offending Saga.

Fines date all the way back to December 2025

You might think the car’s been in the same spot all this time, but it’s been spotted shifting between a few parking bays over several months along Jalan Padas, with no parking coupons in sight.

There’s some speculation as to how the car wound up there in the first place. Some people believe the Saga has been abandoned by an absentee owner, but the fact that it’s been sighted in different parking bays suggests otherwise.

Others think the car could be operated by someone who owns a nearby shoplot, flouting parking laws just because there’s been no action taken against them. And speaking of action (or the lack thereof), the fact that the car has been allowed to roam free without at least a parking clamp is quite bewildering.

With a laundry list of unpaid parking fines, the Saga remains blissfully unbothered. But the irony hasn’t been lost on locals, who were quick to point out that a monthly pass for green zones under Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) costs just RM55. Opting to brave it out with parking fines makes no financial sense.

For now, DBKK is said to be tracing the vehicle’s registered owner as investigations continue. Until then, the red Proton Saga will probably stay comfy in its parking spot(s).
