RIUH Carnival Weekend isn’t Another Bazaar — It’s Where Culture, Comedy & Music Meet

Thirsty for JUICE content? Quench your cravings on our Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp

Make full use of your precious time this upcoming weekend by enriching your soul at RIUH’s Carnival Weekend. Not just a market, RIUH is a creative platform hosting a variety of pop-up stores, creative workshops, showcases, and live performances every month. And this November, RIUH will make you LOL for reals whilst still bringing local culture and music together.

Stand-up comedy with a twist, Ber-RIUH in Comedy guarantees the sharpest wits and hilarious anecdotes from Joanne Kam, JD (whom you might recognise from Raja Lawak), and Prakash Daniel, who is the host of the show. Prakash’s bound to have you chuckling with his insightful observations of our everyday life.

Go one step further and incorporate more fun in your day-to-day life with this Comedy Workshop. Facilitated by industry professional, Fong Muntoh a.k.a. Monti, let yourself loose as you learn about the trinity of comedy, six principles of humour, and five techniques of writing.

Once again, RIUH’s got an eclectic lineup of live acts you need to check out — and they’ve all received validation in the form of official support from Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA), an initiative that was launched by the Prime Minister on 6 September ’17.

Sarah Daniella blends her influences of gospel, soul, and rock to create her own unique fusion of music. Joined by Ravi Shankar on drums and percussions, the duo performs a mix of original songs, covers, and more familiar standards such as The Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and the like.
RYÖTJONES is an 8-piece funk/soul band based in Kuala Lumpur. The band has garnered rave reviews from establishments and aims to bring energetic stage performances to festivals, venues, and events within Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
Vinyl DJ group Disko Santan will be serving up those funkadelic beats so that you can boogie the night away.

Bringing in a traditional element to the table will be world music ensemble Aseana Percussion Unit (pictured above) and a Dikir Barat dance performance by Ask Dance Company. Get ready for a soulful cultural night.

Of course in the spirit of the carnival theme, guests can also expect magic, mimes, stilt walkers, fun-loving clowns (not Pennywise), and more.

Psycusix is a collective of internationally renowned Poi Dancers. Their spectacular and bizarre antics are sure to amaze all folks of life.
Feel the beat at MURFEST‘s reenergising drum circle.

Side note, you can also create your own silk screen prints at this bazaar. Just bring your own t-shirt/tote bag or purchase it there, and come experience the art process for yourself!

Parents, come and snap your most creative photos with your baby at the RIUH Carnival photo booth. Photo-taking sessions are on Saturday 11 November from 12pm to 5pm. Post your most creative entry on Instagram with the hashtag #RIUHbabyinthecity and stand a chance to win mystery gifts. The winner will be announced on the next day at 4.15pm.

And here’s the list of the pop-up stores that will be hustlin’ on that date:

As with every RIUH event, those opting to use public transport may enter the promo code GRABRIUH on Grab to enjoy RM8 off rides to/from APW during event dates.

But even better still, RIUH is collaborating with car-sharing platform SOCAR to provide a shuttle service from three hot spots in the area, namely Starbucks @ Bangsar Village, Dome @ Bangsar Shopping Centre, and Old Town @ LRT Bangsar. Shuttle from the pickup points are at every half an hour from 11am onwards.
