Public Encouraged to Practice Double-Masking to Further Reduce Covid-19 Infection
To further minimise the risk of Covid-19 infection, people are encouraged to wear an extra layer of face mask or ‘double masking’. Director-General of Health Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the practice was recommended based on experiments by the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
He said the results of the experiments streamline the application of a medical face mask and a cloth mask on top of it to further reduce the person’s risk of virus exposure.
“The experiment emphasises the importance of neatly wearing a face mask to improve its functional capabilities. In the CDC lab test, exposure to potentially contagious aerosols can drop by about 95% when the subjects wear tightly fitted masks.
“If I go to the hospital, ‘double masks’ help and health workers also wear face masks. This practice is encouraged,” he said according to Harian Metro.
As seen above, the photo of Dr Noor Hisham wearing double face masks went viral with netizens talking about it on social media.
