National carmaker PROTON has just launched the new PROTON X70 Sport Edition (SE), targeting drivers who want an X70 that looks a little more athletic than the usual crop of C-segment SUVs.

Sporting a stronger visual presence, the PROTON X70 SE will be made in a limited run, with just 600 units available for purchase.

Building on the X70’s already strong reputation

The existing PROTON X70 has seen strong sales over the years, and it isn’t difficult to see why. It’s got a premium appearance, decent practicality owing to its SUV design, as well as a good mix of creature comforts and safety features.

But the X70 SE builds on the existing Premium variant with 10 exclusive upgrades that make it look and feel more feature-packed.

On the outside, the SUV sports a more muscular, assertive stance flanked by a full aerokit comprising front, side, and rear skirts. Adding to the sporty appearance are black 19-inch alloy wheels and exclusive Sport Edition badging.

Inside, you’ll find red stitching accents on the steering wheel and armrest, along with embroidered Sport Edition logos. In terms of practicality, there’s now an added boot tray, making your usual cargo loads a little more convenient.

Powering the X70 SE is PROTON’s i-GT 4-cylinder 1.5TD engine, paired with a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. This combo delivers a pretty refined ride, without compromising on responsiveness.

The car’s infotainment features a 12.3-inch head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, supported by the carmaker’s signature “HI PROTON” voice command system (which can understand thick Malaysian accents, mind you).

In terms of safety, you’ve got a whole suite of features in the Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) among other things.

All in all, the X70 SE offers RM6,000 in added value over the Premium variant, if you want to get specific about numbers.

“The PROTON X70 Sport Edition builds on the strengths of a proven model that Malaysians have come to trust,” said Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, CEO at Proton Edar.

“With this introduction, we are offering customers a more dynamic and refined expression of the X70, tailored for those who want a stronger sense of style while retaining the comfort and technology the model is known for.”

The PROTON X70 Sport Edition costs just RM2,500 more than the 1.5TD Premium variant, making it RM115,300 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM117,300 in East Malaysia (price after rebates, registration before 30 April 2026).
