PROTON Unveils Slick X50 Sport Edition Limited to Just 1,000 Units

National carmaker PROTON has made big strides in recent years with a gradual overhaul of its model lineup. One of the most successful models is the PROTON X50, a compact SUV that strikes a unique balance between sportiness and sophistication. It’s no surprise that it’s the carmaker’s best-selling SUV, as well as the No.1 B-segment SUV in Malaysia last year.

But in case you weren’t satisfied enough with the regular X50 on offer, you can now (try to) get your hands on the PROTON X50 Sport Edition (SE), which is limited to just 1,000 units nationwide.

Exclusive upgrades make the SE a striking, sporty presence

The PROTON X50 SE brings with it 13 upgrades over the regular X50. One of the most tangible differences is the addition of an Aerokit with front, rear, and side skirting. These are accented in a striking red colour that doesn’t come off as too loud. It’s just nice, as people say.

The main paint scheme of the X50 SE’s body is a deep Quartz Black, which exudes a premium aesthetic, especially with the car’s 18-inch blacked out alloy wheels. Topping it all off is red decal running from the front to the back, also in the same red colour. The colour scheme is reminiscent of the classic Air Jordan 1 ‘Bred’ sneakers in a way.

Moving to the interior, you’ll find added sophistication and practicality.

In addition to sport edition carpet mats, you’ll also get stainless steel scuff plates for added durability, as well as a boot tray for improved cargo management. Taking things into the 21st century is the addition of a wireless charger for your smartphone.

The car gets an updated 10.3-inch infotainment head unit powered by a dual quad-core processor, PROTON’s signature “Hi PROTON” voice command system, as well as remote engine start and cabin cooling.

Making things easier for people who hesitate when parking is a 360º Camera with 3D surround view, so you really won’t have any excuse to scuff up your bumpers.

When you’re just in the mood to cruise with your favourite tunes, the car’s six-speaker audio system will make sure you’re able to do just that without any interruptions.

Finally, the PROTON X50 SE also comes standard with security tint for added privacy and UV protection from our blistering Malaysian sun.

Limited production

Adding everything up, the PROTON X50 SE has RM10,000 worth of upgrades over the regular X50. Despite this, PROTON is still offering it at an attractive price: RM105,300. But if you want one, you have to hurry—production is being limited to just 1,000 units.
