According to The Star, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said through their Facebook page that they will take stern action against a man who had allegedly thrown rubbish from his car onto a parking lot.

MBPP was responding to a viral video of a man who was seen cleaning his car and dumping a lot of rubbish next to where it was parked along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.

“We will take this issue seriously and will take firm action against any individual who defiles our city. Any indiscriminate dumping of garbage in public places is an offence under Section 47(1)(e) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

“If convicted, one can be fined a maximum of RM500 for the first offence and RM1,000 for subsequent offences,” MBPP said in the post on Wednesday (24 March).

MBPP also urged the public to be their eyes and ears and report incidents like this to the authorities so that the city can always be clean.
