You didn’t have to be a psychic to see this one coming: Netflix’s Wednesday has been renewed for a third season ahead of its Season 2 debut.
It’s not a surprise, really. The dark teen series has managed to charm both goth veterans and casual viewers like this writer with its macabre humour and solid storytelling. It makes for easy viewing.
More of an inevitability than an announcement

The show has enjoyed monumental success since premiering on the streaming platform back in November 2022.
In fact, Wednesday actually holds the crown as the most viewed English-language series of all time on Netflix, beating the likes of Adolescence, Stranger Things, Dahmer, and yes, even Bridgerton. Not bad for a show about a deadpan teenager with murder in her eyes and a dusty typewriter under her bed.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday reimagines the Addams Family’s morbid darling as a brooding, cello-playing sleuth navigating the supernatural high school halls of Nevermore Academy.
The show’s appeal is boosted by Jenna Ortega’s sharp and cynical portrayal of Wednesday Addams, making the character simultaneously loved and feared. It’s a good balance in this dark context.
Season 2, which is set to drop in two parts on 6 August and 3 September respectively, promises even more of that signature gothic chaos, with the creators teasing darker, more intricate storylines. We’ll also see the return of key Addams family members—Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley—in expanded roles.

If you’re new to the Wednesday series, it might initially come off as a show meant only for teens, but it’s got more bite than you think. It doesn’t try too hard to be edgy, nor does it bury its emotions beneath a thick layer of doom and gloom. It’s sincere in its strangeness.
With Season 3 now officially on the horizon, fans can expect to dig even deeper into the Addams family tree, with more relatives, secrets, and off-kilter twists expected to be uncovered.
“Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” says Gough. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”
For those of us who enjoy a bit of darkness with our drama (and a protagonist who never smiles unless she’s plotting), this is exactly the kind of news we were hoping to hear.
