According to FMT, police arrested the boyfriend of a woman who was reported dead, believed to have been beaten at a residence of their acquaintance in George Town in Penang last Sunday (3 April).

It is understood that the suspect is a well-known YouTuber with over 100,000 subscribers.

The arrest of the victim’s boyfriend along with three other male friends, aged 23 to 28, was made by the team from the Southwest district police station.

The woman believed to be from Melaka, and her boyfriend had been staying at their friend’s rented house since arriving in Penang on 27 March to create content for his YouTube channel. However, she was beaten when the suspect allegedly found out that the woman was cheating on him.

The district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the arrests were made after they received a report on 2 April from a doctor at Balik Pulau Hospital about a patient in critical condition.

Kamarul said the doctor discovered many new and old bruises all over the 20-year-old woman’s body.

“Doctors found bruises on her head and whole body upon examination of the victim. The victim who was unconscious was later referred to Penang Hospital and pronounced dead on the same day.

Acting on information, police arrested the woman’s lover and three other friends believed to be at the scene to assist investigations,” he said in a statement yesterday (5 April).

Kamarul said the victim was believed to have been beaten with blunt objects.

The suspects are now being remanded for seven days until 11 April to assist in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
