Come Chill & Have Drinks With Snakes, Lizards & More At Malaysia’s First Ever Reptile Cafe
If you’re an animal lover, you’ve probably seen your fair share of cat and dog cafes. But have you ever heard of a reptile cafe?
Thanks to the brilliant mind of Yap Ming Yang, Malaysia now has its first ever reptile cafe called the Fangs by Dekori cafe located in Subang Jaya.
As a reptile enthusiast, Ming Yang hopes to share his love for these scaly creatures with the public and educate them about the importance of appreciating all animals.
The cafe is home to a variety of reptiles, including bearded dragons, leopard geckos, and corn snakes, which are all commonly bred in Malaysia.
Visitors can hold and pet these animals while they order drinks and food, just like in any cat or dog cafe.
Yap believes that by allowing people to interact with these animals, they will begin to see how fascinating and unique these creatures actually are.
According to NST, Yap was quoted saying “People only care about furry animals, cats, dogs, but people always leave out reptiles and snakes.”
He later added that by “showing the public how interesting (they) are, we can cause them to have a better outlook on reptiles and less loved animals.”
Yap has a background in environmental science and is part of a community of Malaysians with an interest in herpetology which is the study of reptiles.
He’s not just in it for the love of these creatures as he also hopes to combat the illegal trafficking of wildlife in Malaysia, which is a major problem in the country.
By educating the public about the importance of respecting all animals, he hopes to decrease the demand for illegally traded wildlife while serving up some tasty desserts and drinks to patrons.
