Mass Prayer of Over 200 People by Roadside Being Investigated & Violators May Face Deportation
Hari Raya Aidiladha prayers are an important part of the celebration but due to Covid-19 and strict restrictions against mass gatherings, mosques are only allowed to hold a maximum capacity of 100 people.
Because of that limitation, a crowd of what is believed to be mostly migrant workers was spotted at a parking lot, conducting prayers nearby Surau Taman Pelangi, Juru. It was reported that they may have been over 200 individuals performing worship there.

An investigation was lodged and 49 men have been arrested, 48 being Bangladeshi and 1 local.
According to Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the investigations would be conducted under Sections 269 and 270 of the Penal Code.
Following the investigation, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said strict action will be taken against those who violated the SOPs.
“The Immigration Department has also been told to deport foreigners who were involved,” he said in a statement today.
Currently, Malaysia is sitting at over 12,000 cases a day and over 7,000 deaths related to Covid-19.
