PDRM Hunt Brake-Checking Kembara Driver After Hit & Run

Police are on the lookout for the driver of a Perodua Kembara seen in a viral video brake-checking another road user, before causing a collision and speeding away.

The dangerous incident reportedly occurred on Federal Highway at around 6 p.m. on 20 June.

Shared by @notty_nan on Threads, the video shows the driver in the right (overtaking) lane, keeping a safe distance from the car ahead.

While some people in the comments were quick to assume the driver was hogging the lane, he seemed to be driving appropriately as seen in the video. Moments later, another motorist in a Perodua Kembara is seen swerving into the right lane from the middle, brake-checking the victim.

The victim manages to hit the brakes on time, avoiding a dangerous crash. However, after a failed first attempt, the Perodua Kembara driver performs another brake-check, this time causing the victim to rear-end his car. A child is heard crying in the dashcam footage while all of this takes place.

The Kembara driver then speeds off, effectively causing a collision and committing a hit-and-run.

@notty_nan, reportedly the victim in question, explained in the comments section of his Threads post that he managed to remain calm despite the incident, worrying more about the child (who was in a car seat at the time) with him in the car.

He clarified the incident after some comments questioned the absolute silence from the driver in the footage.

He also emphasised that he was still overtaking in the right lane, not hogging it as some social media users wrongly assumed. There was reportedly no horn or high-beam from the offending Kembara driver to signal the victim to give way.

According to various social media reports (unverified), the same Kembara was later stopped by a group of motorcyclists before the perpetrator reversed into one of them. Both the original dashcam footage and second (unverified) video can be seen here.
