Japan Automotive Students Build Their Own ‘Vellfire Sedan’

The Toyota Vellfire and Alphard are common sights on Malaysian roads.

They’re affectionately (sometimes not so) known as ‘peti ais‘ or refrigerators due to their boxy shape and legitimately great ACs. While the car enjoys equal perceptions of prestige and ire, there’s no denying it’s considered a luxury vehicle.

But a group of students from NATS Nihon Automobile College in Narita, Japan have dared to ask one question: Why not make a Vellfire Sedan?

The result is actually very, very clean

Take one look at this ‘Vellfire’ and you can automatically tell the front fascia was taken directly from a regular Vellfire and transplanted onto this one, with a little bit of reshaping to make sure it looks proportionate to the size of the car.

As to what the base of the sedan actually is, it’s a Lexus LS460, according to Keo Tsang, the person who uploaded a video of the car on Instagram.

But the Vellfire looks don’t just stop in front. In the back, the Vellfire’s full-width tail lights have also been fitted. Finishing everything off is a slick set of forged five-spoke wheels from LS ADAMAS, which are built to order specifically for large luxury vehicles and SUVs in Japan.

If you’re not a fan of the Vellfire’s minivan aesthetic, this sedan version is definitely a great alternative.

Of course, it isn’t an official Toyota vehicle, considering the custom nature of the build. Instead, it was built as a special project to be displayed at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, which took place earlier this year.

However, the event will also be taking place in Malaysia in October this year, so you might actually be able to see the unique car in person.

This writer would argue it’s a lot better than its minivan cousin, considering the fact that it’s got a Lexus V8 engine under the hood. Imagine the road tax you’d have to pay if this were in Malaysia.
