Indonesian Offers Home for Malaysians Stranded in Jakarta

Malaysians who’ve found themselves stranded in Jakarta, Indonesia due to widespread flight cancellations following the recent Anak Krakatau volcanic eruptions have been left with little to fall back on as travel plans across the region face disruption.

Feeling sympathy for them, an Indonesian woman who lives in Malaysia has kindly offered up her Jakarta home for weary Malaysian travellers currently affected by said flight cancellations, particularly female travellers.

According to Maira Safiraa, the woman offering her home, Malaysians are more than welcome to stay at her house in Jakarta while they sort out alternative travel plans. The best part of it all is the fact that she isn’t charging anything for a stay.

“Please don’t hesitate if you need a place to rest while waiting for the situation to return to normal. The accommodation is free… I am not asking for any payment,” reads her post on Threads.

“I simply feel sorry for them and am worried that they might panic while being in a foreign country, especially if their preparations or supplies have run out.”

The recent volcanic eruptions have caused massive flight disruptions across the region, affecting six airports in Indonesia and flights to/from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, Seoul-Incheon, Doha, and Amsterdam.

Maira opened up her home as temporary shelter based purely on humanitarian grounds, with seven Malaysians having already taken up her offer. At the time of writing, three rooms in her house are already occupied, but there’s still space in a fourth room for anyone who needs it.

“I’m actually happy that my home in Jakarta has become livelier with more people around. My personal assistant isn’t alone either, as she now has company,” she shared.

Unfortunately, Maira can’t offer the same for her compatriates stranded in Malaysia, since she currently lives here with her husband, baby, and domestic helper. Affected Malaysian travellers needing a place to stay in Jakarta are urged to DM her on Threads here.
