Is Kanye West Actually Running for President of the United States This Year?
2020 has been a wild ride so far and it looks like it’s going to get crazier with Kanye West announcing his intention (again) to run for president in the 2020 US election.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” the rapper said in a tweet after teasing a new song and putting in the word for his new album titled God’s Country.
We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION

West, who has always been known to be political especially when promoting himself and his music releases, seems to be serious about campaigning this time. However, this is not the first time that West has announced his intention to become POTUS.
The first time was in 2015 as he ended his acceptance speech after receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award by saying he’s running for president in 2020 at the MTV Video Music Awards. Then in January 2019, he ambiguously tweeted “2024,” which might be his way of telling us that there’s a delay.
In a May 2018, he did an interview with Charlamagne tha God, in which West said if he were to run, his platform would be “the Trump campaign and maybe the Bernie Sanders principles. That would be my mix.”
Still, the artist and entrepreneur has gained support for his tweet over the weekend from Tesla head honcho Elon Musk, who replied to West’s tweet by saying: “You have my full support!”

Other than Musk, West also had support from billionaire Mark Cuban who stated that West would not be a bad option.
If there was Rank Choice voting available and @kanyewest was on the ballot with @JoeBiden and @realDonaldTrump , I would have @kanyewest ahead of @realDonaldTrump. https://t.co/y6r0EVdBeB

According to CNN, if he is actually serious about it, West would have a lot of work to do to even qualify to enter the US election which is only four months away. He would still need to sign up with the Federal Election Commission to come up with a campaign and collect enough signatures to get on the November Ballot, and more. West will also have to run under an existing party as he has already missed the deadline to register as an independent candidate in many states.
If West does become POTUS, let’s hope his first order of business would be to give out a pair of free Yeezy’s to everyone (including JUICE).
