Hideo Kojima Plans To Collaborate with Horror Legend, Junji Ito, For New Video Game

Kojima (L) and Ito (R)

Known as the master of video games, Hideo Kojima is a respected household name within the industry. With projects such as Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hills (P. T) and the latest hit, Death Stranding, Kojima is a force to be reckoned with.

A similarly respected name, but within the manga industry, is Junji Ito who has been deemed the King of Horror. His work is one of the most recognisable art styles in the genre and has even been given tribute by designers in Malaysia.

Both legends have worked or been praised by auteur, Guillermo Del Toro (director of Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water and Hellboy), for they orbit within the same mind-bending, fantastical horror worlds.

So, it comes as no surprise that Kojima is currently in talks with Ito on an upcoming video game project. However, this would not be their first rodeo in the gaming industry since the two have collaborated before on Silent Hills, which was unfortunately cancelled due to Kojima’s departure from Konami and Death Stranding, where Ito made a cameo.

The new video game will apparently be in their quintessential horror genre, according to Ito during an interview at Comic Con. Although the specifics were not discussed yet by the pair, fans are already excited for a fully-realised video game coming from the two masters of their own genre. He said,

“I do know director Kojima and we have been in conversation that he may have a horror-based game that he may be doing, and so he has invited me to work on that, but there are no details on it yet,”

We can only speculate as to what their ideas for their new collaboration will be but I think it’s safe to say, from the duo’s track record, that the game will surely be a hit. I mean, just look at Kojima’s masterful storytelling and Ito’s stunning artwork!
