Two female elephants that died from accidentally ingesting herbicide at a vegetable farm near Kahang Dam in Kluang were finally buried earlier today.

According to Malay Mail, director of Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) Salman Saaban said that based on the investigation of the carcasses, the two elephants aged between five and six were believed to have died more than a week ago.

“Checks revealed that there were no traces of gunshots found on the elephants,” Salman said in a statement.

He also added that the dead elephants were part of the 25 to 30 south-eastern elephants herd that would always roam in the area to search for food.

Salman also said that the department took several samples to determine the actual cause of the elephants’ death before they were buried nearby the area this morning.
