In an age of artificial intelligence and computer-learning algorithms, there have been many virtual idols and influencers introduced. Now, Airasia is debuting its first virtual idol, Aozora Kurumi, a part-time idol and streamer who speaks seven languages including Bahasa Malaysia.

The virtual idol is part of its Project Kavvai, a programme to discover and develop the next virtual idol in Asean that was launched last March.

According to Airasia, Aozora will play a big role in the company’s effort to develop online content and live broadcasts in the lifestyle and gaming categories, and the future of streaming content.

Aozora Kurumi is designed by a renowned illustrator in the virtual idol community, Yueko, and brought to life by industry veteran Iron Vertex. Her vocals were provided by a talent from Project Kavvai in an open audition held last March.

“We are proud to introduce our first virtual idol today which we foresee will be a game-changer in the future of streaming content.

“As a digital company, the constant change in the way people consume online content drives us to explore cross-industry innovations with Project Kavvai to stay relevant and ahead of trends,” says Rudy Khaw, Chief Brand Officer of Airasia Group.

Airasia also said it’s working with Pixiv, the top online community for artists in Japan and across the world. The collaborative partnership includes an Aozora fan art contest and a dedicated Pixiv channel for exclusive content from the platform on Airasia Wifi.

Aozora Kurumi’s debut live stream will take place on 8 May 2021 at 8pm on YouTube. Follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for more updates.
