Dream Job for Cat Lovers? A Cat Sanctuary on a Scenic Greek Island is Looking for a Caretaker
Most of us cat-inclined-people have dreamed of living on a beautiful island, sipping a cold one while about ten of our furry friends circle around us… Well, how about realising that dream by taking care of 55 cats on a Greek island?
According to Insider, a cat sanctuary located in Greece is looking for a Caretaker for its cats, which sounds like a pretty awesome job. God’s Little Cat People Rescue posted an ad with the headline “PAID JOB OFFER WITH CATS!” on its Facebook page. Located on the Greek island of Syros, the organisation houses rescued cats and feeds strays in the area. They’re now looking for someone to come to the island and take over cat-caring duties.
Although it sounds fun being surrounded by cute feline friends, it is a job nonetheless, and the organisation is looking for “a mature and genuinely passionate cat lover who knows how to handle many cats and would love their company” while the owner and founder, Joan Bowell is away.
If you’re chosen for the job, you need to feed, medicate and take the cats to the vet (via the sanctuary’s manual car) should they become ill. You would work around 4 hours a day with 55 cats under you care, and you’d also need to corral “feral or non-sociable cats”, occasionally.
In exchange for taking care of these felines, the part-time position comes with “a fully-paid (including water and electricity) semi-detached modern, tiny house with its own garden (direct view of the Aegean Sea!) plus a salary!” The sanctuary will also cover your expenses such as food and vet costs.
According to the post, the ideal candidate for the job is someone aged 45 or above with some veterinary-nurse training, knowledge of cat psychology, and natural “cat whispering skills.”
“We are located in a secluded nature preserved area which is very tranquil and quiet in winter time but busy during the summer. You’ll no doubt thrive best if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility – and rest comfortably in your own company. That said, you’ll never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you’ll be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house,” the Facebook post stated. Well, we’d like to think we’d be fine living with a bunch of cats.
The job starts November 1st and requires a minimum commitment of six months with a 1-month introductory trial period (as a volunteer with free accommodation) beginning in October. If you feel like living the (cat person’s) dream, then you should apply for this job, pronto.
It’s on a freaking island! With cats! What could go wrong?
