DG Noor Hisham Refutes Claim That Frontliner Dr Ali Died of Exhaustion

According to Sinar Harian, The Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) has denied claims that Dr Ali Noor Hassan died due to fatigue while on duty. While not stating the cause of death, Director-General of Health, Dr Noor Hisham said that the doctor died from an unrelated illness. 

“He has been diagnosed with another illness that has nothing to do with fatigue,” Dr Noor Hisham said via text message with Sinar Harian, today (20 Jan).

Just one day ago, a charity group claimed that one of its members, Dr Ali, who is a medical officer serving as a COVID-19 frontliner, passed away a few days ago while on duty. The group posted on Facebook, stating that he fell ill due to his workload, highlighting a lack of rest.

Then post also mentioned that Dr Ali fell asleep and then fainted, leading to his death.

The group, calling itself Skuad Pengurusan Jenazah Malaysia (Malay for “Malaysian Funeral Management Squad), said Dr Ali’s kin informed the group of his passing via Facebook.

In the same post, the group also shared what it said was the last picture of Dr Ali taken by his friend before his death.

Recently, there have been many allegations stating that Malaysia’s public healthcare is in dire straits. However, health minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the government has enough resources to ensure that the public health system continues to serve the people to curb the spread of COVID-19.
