Even George R.R. Martin Thinks ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ on Netflix is Amazing
Netflix did a great job with their original content last year, with Blue Eye Samurai being one of its major highlights. So much so, that even George R.R. Martin sang its praises.
The creator of A Song of Ice and Fire took to his blog on New Year’s Eve to talk about how much he and his wife loved the animated series.
The author went on to praise Netflix’s other animated series, Love, Death + Robots and lambasted Disney’s recent live-action remakes of his childhood favourites like Pinocchio and Dumbo.
What Martin especially liked is the originality of Blue Eye Samurai, with its tale of revenge and honour being something familiar to fans of Game of Thrones.
Martin also took the time to announce his own animation project within his A Song of Ice and Fire universe, with Nine Voyages being an animated series that is coming soon.
Blue Eye Samurai is a provocative and visually stunning cinematic series that immerses the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action edge.
Set in Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.
Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, the show features an all-star cast that includes Maya Erskine, George Takei, Masi Oka, Brenda Song, and Kenneth Branagh.
Netflix has confirmed a second season of Blue Eye Samurai will be coming soon, no word on the release date of George R.R. Martin’s next book, The Winds of Winter.
